I keeps putting a small window at bottom of the screen that asks if I want to make Internet Explorer my default browser. I answer yes and when I go to make IE9 my default browser it says IE9 64bit cannot be the default browser. That's the only one I have. I've tried to download the 32bit IE9 from Windows download center but it will not let me download it because it says it is not compatible with my system.

The file that seems most closely to what you suggest is: ieinstal and when I right click on it I get options similar to what you say and when I click on Pin to start menu and Internet explorer Icon does appear on the start menu but when I hover the curson over the Icon it does not say "Internet Explorer" nor does it say "Internet Explorer bit ". It does have a R arrow and that says start inprivate browsing.
There was also an option that said "restore previous versions" and I tried that and no new versions of IE9 have shown up and I'm not sure now whether I have the 32bit or 64bit version of IE9 now. When I clicked to Pin IE 9 to the task bar nothing new appeared in the task bar. Followed all instructions to the letter. I am still getting window that asks me if I want IE9 to be my default browser!! I always click yes, but the window keeps on returning. Cannot find file iexplore.
I'm able to surf internet but annoying window keeps asking me if I want IE9 to be my default browser. I wrote letter to Microsoft Redmond WA but no answer and do help! I have tried all the suggestions from all those who replied and I still get the window at bottom of screen that pops up form time to time asking if I want IE9 to by my default browser.

IE9 is horrible. IE has become worse and worse with each release. The other day I got one from Dell. IE tries to protect you from everything except what you need protection from. I can't wait to see how worthless IE10 is. It is not responding more than it responds. I can't believe Micresoft put this out there!
